How does Epodia work
To post and download teaching materials you must be a pre-qualified teacher, researcher, trainer or academic instructor. Posting or publishing on Epodia is free of charge and the author maintains all copyrights. Similarly, downloading and using Epodia material is free as long as users follow the
terms and conditions of use and adhere to all copyright restrictions.

As a qualified instructor you can use any of Epodia's content. All you have to do is download the material you selected, a teaching case for example, and then make as many copies of the electronic file (PDF) as needed for your students (or simply forward the file to your copy center for reproduction). Epodia is entirely electronic and does not provide paper copies of documents.

Items in Epodia are ranked based on their popularity as gauged by the number of times they have been downloaded. Registered members can also add reviews, comments and feedback to posted items.

FAQ section
How does Epodia compare to other sources?
Epodia is an academically unaffiliated, totally independent site. Its diverse content is researched and authored by your colleagues in leading academic institutions around the world — and is peer-reviewed in the real sense of the word.

Epodia offers a great variety of hard-to-find teaching materials and course-planning tools, including syllabi, articles, working papers, exams, tools, slide presentations, problem sets and more. In that regard, it complements the leading case study publishers.

Most of the materials posted on Epodia have been previously tested and refined based on real classroom experience. And unlike any other similar resource, Epodia users can add their feedback, relate their student thoughts and even offer teaching tips for each and every item on the site.

Who is qualified to use Epodia? Can students access Epodia?
The material in Epodia in designed for the "instructor's eyes only" and therefore pre-qualification is needed in order to benefit from the full breadth of Epodia's content. Only when you become a registered user can you access teaching notes as well as other items and a variety of other confidential options reserved for faculty. Students are not granted such access.

To qualify for membership, during the registration process you'll be asked for your academic background and affiliation. Shortly after verification of the information by the Epodia staff, you'll receive an e-mail message welcoming you as a qualified Epodia Faculty.

Who is behind Epodia?
Epodia is an independent initiative, unaffiliated, nor supported by any academic institution. It was conceived and started on the fly by two instructors and their publishing friend. The motivation was to create a free collaborative exchange for educational materials in order to foster the flow of diverse teaching aids worldwide.
(About us)

What is Epodia's business model?
Right now there isn't one. The founders paid for site development and are paying the ongoing operating costs out of their own pockets. They also volunteer their time. If you have any ideas for how to support this site, please
contact us.

top

What about copyrights?
The copyright of Epodia materials is retained by the authors. Epodia is merely a vehicle for authors to share materials with other instructors. At any time, authors may remove their materials from the site. This can easily be done through "myEpodia." All users must agree to the Epodia
terms and conditions before downloading materials.

top

What does "download count" mean?
You will notice the term "download count" appearing on the Search Results, Item Detail and other pages. Epodia tracks the number of times any item is being downloaded. Thus the download count is a measure of adoption and popularity. That said, the longer an item has been on the site the greater the opportunity it has to get downloaded. Internally, Epodia does also tabulate downloads over pre-specified time periods. Only registered members who are logged-in can view and download an item. To preserve counting integrity, the download counter for any given item ignores downloads performed by its "owner" and all downloads are monitored and stamped by the member's ID.

Reporting problems
If you encounter any technical problems or have any suggestions on how to improve Epodia, please let us know. Your feedback and problem reporting will be very much appreciated.

If you encounter any material at Epodia that you think should not be there, be it because you find it offensive, you have reasons to believe that the document violates copyright laws, or simply because you have substantial concerns about an item's quality, then please
contact us and we will address the matter promptly.

Once I find a teaching case that I want to use, how do I get it?
Simply click on the "View and Download" link next to the selected item and once you accept the terms and conditions of use, a PDF-format file will be available for download. In some cases, depending on the author's preferences, the file in its original application format may be available (e.g. Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations). Related topics:

top

Can I post Epodia content on a course web site?
Yes, as long as you adhere to the Epodia
terms and conditions of use and make those known to your website visitors.

top

Can I add Epodia content to my electronic course-pack?
Yes. Again, be sure to follow the
term and conditions of use and notify your students of the copyright restrictions.

top

Why am I unable to download items or view comments?
To assure that Epodia content is reserved for qualified instructors only (and cannot be accessed by students) it can not be viewed/downloaded without being logged-in. You also must be logged-in to view any member's comments as well as to access numerous other helpful functions.

top

What materials are suitable for posting on Epodia?
You can post any material that you think will be useful for other instructors. This includes cases and lecture notes, slides and exams, problem sets, tools and exercises — and also more general items such as course syllabi. Especially valuable are materials that come "bundled" together, such as a case and a teaching note, or a lecture with PowerPoint slide presentation. In addition to your teaching work, Epodia also allows you to get your working papers posted and visible to the academic community.

top

How can I help others use my material?
The underlying philosophy of Epodia is to freely share teaching-related knowledge among instructors. In order to make the use of your material by your colleagues most successful, it is extremely important that you share your advice on using the materials with them. The most efficient way of doing so is by providing supplements or additional support material. This could take the form of slides, formal or informal teaching notes, recommended study questions, board plans, videos, etc. When posting such supplements, please post them together with the "main item" you are posting (e.g. a case) so that our database can link these items and share the link with other users.

top

How can I draw attention to material I post on Epodia?
Epodia allows you to add "A message to Epodia users" (author's comment) to items you post. It gives you the opportunity to highlight the special features, benefits and strengths of your material. You can indicate to what extent you or others have used the material, explain how appropriate it may be for different student groups, or point to similar cases/material that could potentially be replaced with your work.

Here is an example: "This case study is based on my research in financial services and I have used it in our Operations Management core course. A nice feature of this recently updated case is that it combines rigorous quantitative analysis with the qualitative insights associated with workflow management. It has been used successfully in MBA classes, Evening MBA classes, and in Executive Education."

How do I actually post on Epodia?
The posting process is straightforward. You must be an approved member and logged-in to post.

1. Enter the customary information for your material. This includes the title and your (and your co-authors) name(s) as well as the type of item you are posting (e.g. case study, exam, etc.)

2. Provide an abstract (up to 500 words long; 100-200 words is ideal) for your teaching material. The entire abstract text will be searched when Epodia content is queried by users, however, only the first 140 characters of your abstract will show in most views (together with the title of the material, your name and keywords you assigned). So choose these first characters/words carefully. Your full abstract will show when "Item detail" view is selected by users.

3. Type in your "message to Epodia users." Do not exceed 60 words.

4. Enter keywords and use the Epodia academic discipline classification categories so we can correctly file your material.

5. Enter document information such as the date of the last update of the material and the number of pages.

6. Upload the item/file you are posting from your computer to the Epodia website by clicking the 'Browse...' button.

7. Add supplementary materials — if you want to — when prompted using the posting process.
